Since last year, Homestead High School has been improving infrastructure for Safe Routes To School. Next school year, it will begin encouraging and educating students and their families to bike and walk to school. They will begin the school year with several large events, including three Bike Stampedes (bike trains led by experienced student leaders). If a student arrives by bike, they get a Krispy Kreme Donut!
They will also hold a festive Round Up event featuring a Bike Rodeo tailored specifically to teens to show them biking safety basics and help them tune and repair their bikes with the Bay Area Bike Mobile. Cookies will be provided. For some take-home education, Homestead SRTS parent champions have prepared a Bike and Walk Route Map of the most popular routes Homestead students take to school, and a Traffic Safety Tips brochure for driving on and around campus. Both publications will be handed out at Student and Parent Orientation. Homestead High School is looking forward to a great year with increased walking and biking to school.
