We had another great meeting this week with nearly 25 in attendance and representation from most Cupertino schools. The meeting included a special traffic enforcement update from Sgt. Leo Gonzales with some very interesting updates about school driver behaviors and new techniques the traffic department is using to help keep our streets safe. Safe Routes 2 School projects are progressing with speed this new year with many exciting new developments underway! We expect the Pedestrian Crossing Flag program to expand to new intersections in the coming months, walk audits and safe route mapping projects to continue at more Cupertino schools, and look forward to the possibility of new bicycle and pedestrian safety education coming to 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade students. Some events to be aware of in the coming months:
- “Parent Meet-Up: A Strategy Session for Creating Safe Routes to School ft. City of Palo Alto Safe Routes to School” on February 8th from 3-5 PM in Community Hall. – this event is open to all parents (not just Cupertino) who are interested in learning more about Safe Routes 2 School and how to get involved (see attached flyer)
- Safe Routes 2 School Family Bike Ride- The City of Cupertino’s annual Earth Day Festival will feature another Safe Routes 2 School Family Bike Ride! The ride will start at approximately 9 AM on Saturday April 22nd, 2017 so mark your calendars! (more details to come)
