A new sidewalk ordinance allowing students 12 and under (along with parents) to ride their bicycles on sidewalks is in the works.
Key elements of the proposed ordinance are: (1) Any child age 12 or under may ride on the sidewalk (i.e., this is not limited to students). (2) Children 12 or under can ride solo on the sidewalk. (i.e., they do not need to be with an adult) (3) An adult may ride with the 12 or under child. (i.e., the adult does not need to be a parent).
This ordinance has been approved by the Bike/Ped commission and will be presented to the City Council in February 2016.
