As a public service to the members of the Walk-Bike Cupertino Advocacy and the Cupertino Comunity, we are providing this report to show the number and scope of projects the City of Cupertino has in process.

 

From a conversation with David Stillman, Cupertino Traffic and Transportation Manager, we provide you a recap and a summary of the current bike/pedestrian infrastructure projects that are funded and moving forward. These projects total more than $10M in committed funds, along with $1.8M contributed by Apple Computer for the Class IV project on Stevens Creek Boulevard.  We hope that you’ll find this information of interest and see that the city and its leaders are moving forward in a smart fashion to make Cupertino a safer, more enjoyable city to bike, walk and enjoy.

The list of projects we are currently working on are as follows:

  • Regnart Creek Trail Feasibility Study. The study is fully funded, will be completed in August and presented to Council on August 21.  No approvals or funding has been requested or identified for and subsequent work at this time.
  • De Anza Historic (UPRR) Trail Feasibility Study. The study has just begun and is fully funded.  No approvals or funding has been requested or identified beyond the feasibility study phase.
  • Junipero Serra Trail Feasibility Study. The study is fully funded, is in progress, and will be presented to Council later this year.  No funding has been requested or identified beyond the feasibility study phase.
  • Carmen Road Bike/Ped Bridge Feasibility Study. The study is fully funded and is currently being scoped.  No funding has been requested or identified beyond the feasibility study phase.
  • McClellan Road Class IV Bike Lane: The segment between Imperial Avenue and Stelling Road is being advertised for construction this month. Construction is anticipated to begin late summer/early fall and continue throughout the rest of 2018.  The project is fully funded through construction.  The segments between Byrne and Imperial, and between Stelling and Torre, are currently in the initial engineering design stage and is fully funded though that stage.  Conceptual designs are being developed for the De Anza/McClellan intersection.
  • Stevens Creek Blvd Class IV: Engineering design has begun on the segment between Wolfe Road and Tantau Ave. Construction is expected to begin late in 2018.  The project is fully funded through construction.  No funding has been identified for engineering or construction on Stevens Creek Blvd east of Wolfe Rd.
  • Bike Boulevards: Engineering design is beginning along the Portal/Merritt route, and the Greenleaf/Beardon/Meteor route. Construction is expected to begin late 2018 or early 2019 and is fully funded.  Orange Avenue bike boulevard will be constructed as part of the Orange/Byrne sidewalk project later this year.  The remaining bike boulevards are mostly funded but require further public outreach which will occur later this year.
