The most recent Cupertino Bicycle-Pedestrian Commission (BPC) meeting continued its work on Cupertino’s Pedestrian Master Plan and the implementation of the Bicycle Master Plan.

Discussions on the Bicycle Plan centered around a final review of the McClellan Road Class IV Bike lanes.  David Stillman, City Transportation Engineer, presented the drawings that included the layout at intersections.  All were approved, with the exception of the treatment at Westacres/McClellan (where a Bike Boulevard will start, so final treatment is TBD) and at De Anza/McClellan (final treatment is still TBD due to space constraints).

The Pedestrian Master plan was also discussed and approved with a few changes.  The draft plan can be found here:  www.cupertino.org/walk (follow the link on the bottom of that page).  The changes to the plan, which were approved unanimously by the BPC, are as follows:

  • Add 10 points to the total for the Tier 2 Grade Separate Crossing / Carmen Road Bridge, to reflect it would be a school connector.  This would bring the total points for this project to 70, making it a Tier 1 project.
  • Add 10 points to the total for the Shared Use Path / Regnart Creek Phase 1, to reflect it as a school connector.  This would bring the total points for the project to 70, making it a Tier 1 project.
  • Delete the item Construct Curb Extensions / Finch Ave at Calle de Barcelona.

With these changes, the plan was approved to be recommended to the City Council.  It is expected it will be presented by David Stillman at the December 19 Cupertino City Council meeting.

There were brief reports by Jennifer Shearin on the ongoing library bicycle theft investigation and on new bike racks at the library.

Attendees of the meeting included all BPC Commissioners (with the exception of Pete Heller), Ari Lattanzi (City Staff/Planning), David Stillman (City Transportation Engineer), Larry Dean from WBC,  Jerry Tallinger (Public Safety Commissioner) and several boy scouts from local troops.  Next month’s meeting will be held on December 20th at 7 pm in City Hall Conference Room C.  All members of the public are welcome to attend, and the agenda will be published 72 hours in advance on www.cupertino.org.
