The second annual Pedal 4 the Planet Bike ride at Cupertino’s Earth Day celebration on April 22 was so much fun for local residents. Almost double the number of cyclists participated compared to last year.
The route was a gentle 7.5 mile ride (no hills, except for the small one at the Don Burnett /Mary Bridge) and participants rode at their own pace. Pete Helller, Cupertino Bicycle Pedestrian Commissioner, led the group and prepared the route. Several cyclists noted how enjoyable the route was for them, as it was not on their normal biking routes and went through neighborhoods instead of main roads. Rider Lisa Eschelbeck noted, “It is very interesting to see these areas that I do not normally pass through.”
The participants included many residents, along with all five of the Bicycle Pedestrian commissioners, Chelsea Biklen from Safe Routes to School, several Walk-Bike Cupertino
It is expected that the ride will continue to grow, and become an annual tradition for residents here in Cupertino.
