Constuction of a new Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) Robotics Facility will cause year-long disruptions for students who travel to Cupertino High. Affected is the Finch Ave (Baseball) gate with Tilson Ave (stadium also affected with a separate project. This likely will affect traffic on Finch Avenue as well. year-long disruptions for students who travel to Cupertino High and use the Tilson Ave (Stadium) gate or the gate next to the baseball field on Finch Avenue. This likely will affect traffic on Finch Avenue as well.

Though the facility will be a wonderful new amenity for all FUHSD students, it will cause some disruptions in commutes to Cupertino High School for the 2025-26 school year. At the same time this fall, the artificial turf fields for the football field and the softball fields will be replaced, further causing a secondary closure at the south end of the campus for the first few months of school.

Mitigation for closing the gates

The school has mitigated these disruptions by adding protective barriers at the entrance to the pool lot on Finch, and by restricting traffic in that lot as well. Below are pictures which show the commuting changes for early fall and for late fall through June 2026.

Post construction

Post-construction, commutes will go back to the same way there were before the construction. Pedestrian and cyclist students will be able to use the Finch Avenue gate near the baseball field and the Tilson gate near the football field. Drivers will be again allowed to enter and exit as before to the Pool loop dropoff area.

We think that the changes to the pool loop parking lot and entrances will allow students to get to school safely and actively. We encourage all students to walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, or take transit to school instead of being driven by car. Here’s three good reasons:

By letting your child get to school actively (not in a car), a parent can:

  • Avoid the traffic jams near school
  • Increase your child’s school success (it’s proven by studies!)
  • Save money, time, and be more green!
