Accident Data for Cyclists and Pedestrians
Data is crucial for determining where the largest safety issues are currently occurring for pedestrians and cyclists, so they can be addressed. This information is a critical part of any Active Transportation Plan for the city to determine what new infrastructure projects should be prioritized.
This data should not be the only driver of new infrastructure, however, as this data does not consider current avoidance of roads due to safety issues (lowering the number incidences of collisions without the road actually being safer) nor the desire for encouragement of walking/biking whereby more people would walk or bike on a particular road if a route was more enjoyable or safer.
