San Jose Safe Streets World Day of Remembrance
November 19, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Greetings,The San Francisco Bay Area Families for Safe Streets, a group of family members who have lost loved ones or been injured, and are advocating for change, is hosting this vigil to honor those who have been lost or injured in traffic violence, and those who suffer the pain of losing a loved one to traffic violence. Here are the details of the event:
DATE: Sunday, November 19
TIME: 1:30–3:00 pm
LOCATION: Memorial Walk starts at St. James Park. The group will meet at the southwest corner at 1st Street and St. John Street in downtown San Jose. Look for people in yellow shirts and safety vests.
MEMORIAL WALK: The group will walk to Theater Plaza (in front of Whispers Cafe and Hammer Theatre at 150 S. 2nd Street, San Jose) for the press conference and remarks.
World Day of Remembrance is a United Nations’ event. The event will feature speakers who have lost loved ones and victims of traffic violence to share their stories.
The memorial will also bring attention to a State policy goal – automated speed enforcement. We will also raise awareness about the work that the San Jose is already doing to achieve Vision Zero, as well as the need to expand the tools in our toolbox to include automated speed enforcement, a critical solution for achieving Vision Zero that has unequivocally been shown to reduce speeding, reduce severe injuries, and to save lives, but is currently not allowed for use in San Jose by the State of California. This event follows the release of the first ever report by the National Traffic Safety Board on speed.
Please join us! You can RSVP at http://bit.ly/RSVPWDR2017SanJose.
We’d also appreciate your help spreading the word – if you know any survivors, people who have lost loved ones, or community members who care deeply about traffic safety in their neighborhoods. Please let any and all know that they are welcome to join the memorial.
